Na'vi from Pandora

So I’m quite the language nerd. If I could build muscles with words, I’d be like Arnold with a bigger vocab. No more “I’ll be back” but rather “I’ll momentarily return”. So, the past holiday I saw Avatar in 3D. It totally blew my mind, eyes, imagination and concept of movies straight to Pandora. It was the best movie experience I’ve ever had. Naturally, being a linguaphile, I got intrigued by the native language of Pandora, Na’vi.

So, apparently James Cameron (the uber director) managed to hire a linguist, Paul Frommer, to create the language of Na’vi for the film. Damn, you gotta give that dude credit for getting down and dirty with the details. Other well known created languages includes, Elvish and Klingon, so you’d reckon that Avatar should be buddies with them.

However, Na’vi is still very young. It needs a lot more vocabulary and the grammar is not entirely clear yet. However, there’s already a 1000 member strong community, trying to figure to figure out Na’vi. I thought the language was beautiful and I’m currently learning it in my free time. If you wanna hang out with the cool people, come swing by Learn Na’vi.
