Odd Twitter Spam
by | Internet | August 25, 2009

Twitter SpamSo the other day I was being all ‘vain’ and searched Twindie.net on Twitter. You know, just to see if there’s any chattage (yeah I just made that up!) going on about the site. I stumbled onto something strange.

This here girl’s status showed the exact tweet as mine from a few days ago. And no this was no retweet. If you look at her other Twitter updates they have some connection: design for WordPress/themes. On top of that they all are sent from Twitterfeed (the super useful site that feeds your RSS into Twitter).

The fact that this girl has 600 or so followers is just astounding. This is different to the normal spammer. More like a bot of sorts just wasting space on Twitter. I’ve seen similar things happen where the “bot” would tweet the same thing about two weeks apart: something lame but recognisable, “OMG! Travolta is hot in this movie, I want to watch Grease again…”. I recognised something was fishy and immediately unfollowed. I have unfortunately lost the Twitter account name to show you guys.

So, next time, something seemingly normal follows you, just check their content for any suspicious origins or strange signs of “bot-ness”.
