Memes on the Internet still boggle me completely. It seems like random behaviour for no apparent reason only than a few chuckles. The pictured person was the first brave soul to stick his head in the freezer. He called his photo on Flickr, 241543903. Then a meme followed suit.
@Annaling’s tweet brought this strange meme to my attention last night. Google 241543903 and you’ll find a plethora of people sticking their heads in freezers. I can understand Youtube memes such as, Rick Rolling, Over 9000, Chocolate Rain, but they are merely viral videos. LOLcats started as a meme on a popular imageboard. These things are cute and extremely funny. Many can relate, but people sticking their heads in freezers!?
It seems to me the same reasons are involved here similar to people going to flash mobs. It’s a collective random behaviour. Somehow we want to be a part of trend of something, doesn’t matter how crazy. In fact the crazier the better. Yes, even sticking your head in a freezer.
If you read 241543903.com’s about page you’ll see it just needed one guy and a few spurring individuals to set this meme into motion. Strange indeed. This is why I love the Internet.
